AN · OUR METHOD

OUR METHOD

AN is a modern Eastern practice of care.

Every state deserves care. We begin with the room, the hour, and the plants already familiar to everyday life.

FOUR WAYS OF NOTICING

State comes before formula.

Our method is inspired by the observational sequence of traditional Chinese medicine: 望、闻、问、切.

This is not medical guidance. It is a quieter way to notice the time, the space, and the state already present before choosing a formula.

AN Apothecary state observation

Observe

Morning, afternoon, dusk, or late night. A room, a window, a door, a lamp. We begin with what is already there.

Sense

Clear or still. Warm or cool. Open or settled. Nothing needs correcting—this is simply the atmosphere of the moment.

Ask

What part of the day are you entering? What part are you ready to leave? What kind of care belongs here?

Match

Only then do we match a formula and a ritual—not to change the person, but to give the moment a boundary.

Eastern aromatic botanicals in the AN archive

BOTANICAL NOTE

Botanicals are where state begins.

AN does not begin with abstract fragrance notes. It begins with a long tradition of observing scent, season, and ways of care through Eastern aromatic botanicals, translated into rituals for modern daily life.

Drawing from this tradition, AN translates a sense of opening, grounding, warming, and settling into four states of care across the day.

It is not medicine. It is care with a lineage.

AN Apothecary slow care ritual

SLOW CARE

A room can change before you do.

AN does not promise immediacy. A formula belongs to a time, a place, and a repeated action.

Light it at the same threshold. Let the room become familiar with the signal. Care is cumulative, subtle, and time-dependent.

The formulas in this archive are not medical treatments and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. The descriptions of states and botanical properties are observational and experiential, not clinical. If you are experiencing significant emotional distress, mental health difficulties, or any medical condition, please consult a qualified healthcare professional. AN Apothecary is a sensory practice, not a clinical one.
